A real jack-of-all-trades, Patrick Wilson finds time to juggle being a boat captain, a real estate agent, playing in a band and being a single father. Originally from Montgomery, Ala., Wilson moved to Destin in 1993. “I came to Destin every chance I got as a kid,” said Wilson. “I loved to watch the charter boat fleet come in. It was always my dream to back a big yacht into a slip like a pro.” Wilson received his boat captain’s license in 1997 and worked on a private boat Color Me Gone for tournament fishing. “I also had my own charter business,” said Wilson. “The 25-foot Center Console boat named Grand Slam docked at the East Pass Marina.” Over the years, Wilson has worked and fished off of many boats and now works for Lee and Delma Sims as captain of their 52-foot yacht, “Delma’s Dream.” Wilson does boat maintenance and upkeep, delivers the boat to wherever the Sims need it, and picks them up at the airport and takes them to their yacht. “They are great people to work for,” Wilson told The Log. “It has been a great experience with a bright future.” In 2000, Wilson started playing bass for the cover band Cadillac Willy and has been entertaining locals and tourists for the past 10 years. “We thought it would be a good idea to have a band that plays good classic music like Bill Withers, J.J. Cale, Funky Meters and Widespread Panic,” said Wilson. “Some of my favorite gigs have been the Seafood Festival, the 4th of July gigs on the harbor and the Crab Cruncher Cobia Tournament.” Fan favorites included tunes like “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd and “Miss Me” by the Rolling Stones. Cadillac Willy can be found performing all over Destin at places like the Funky Blues Shack, Harbor Docks, and Harry T’s. In 2005, Wilson ventured into the world of real estate when the market was “booming,” using his experience and knowledge of boats to sell harbor-front property. “I really enjoy selling harbor real estate because I love the harbor,” said Wilson, whose 3 year old son is even named Harbor. “My experience as a boat captain helps clients determine what properties will fit their boats and yachts,” he told the Log. “I also know people who can modify boat slips and docks to accommodate their wants and needs.” Wilson still enjoys selling Gulf-front property and homes in Destin and is not limited to just the harbor.
